Anatomy

The hip joint is a ball-and-socket joint that allows motion and gives the stability needed to bear our body weight when standing, running, and jumping. While the hip is one of the most stable joints in the body, it is more likely to develop arthritis and a variety of other conditions because of its role in supporting the weight of the human body. Aging, disease, deformity, dysfunction often cause severe pain, loss of motion and limited mobility.

The pelvis is a basin-shaped structure that supports the spinal column and protects the abdominal organs. It’s comprised of the sacrum and coccyx (tail bone), the iliacs’ (pelvic wings) and the ischium (sitting bone), and the pubis (front private area). The pelvis is also responsible for balancing your torso with your lower extremities, providing not only support but also mobility. Injuries sustained to any of these bones can severely affect not only organ function, mobility but also your balance.
