Wrist Care
The hand and wrist specialists at Gunderson Orthopedics in Oklahoma City are fellowship-trained and specialize in diagnosing conditions affecting the wrist and hand. Whatever your unique injury or situation, we’ll identify the underlying cause and create a customized treatment plan to get you moving again.
Anatomy
The wrist is among the most complex joints in the body. In fact, it may be argued that there is no such thing as a single “wrist joint,” since the wrist contains many joints that function together to move the hand. These functions depend on a complex structure of multiple bones, joints, and soft tissues–tendons, ligaments, nerves, and blood vessels.
The far end of the radius and ulna (forearm bones) move against 8 carpal bones with a wide range of motion. Your wrist functions to put your hand in perfect position. If anything is wrong with your wrist due to pain, numbness, injury or restricted motion, this severely diminishes your ability to function.
If anything happens to any of these parts of the nerves and blood vessels around them, it can cause pain and irritation. Aging and overuse may also cause pain that limits the joint’s ability to function as the upper extremity hinged joint.
